In English

Hi and welcome to BringBackBeat!!!
BringBackBeat is a student association under Medicinska Föreningen at KI, which offers you the unique opportunity to try out several different dance styles. No previous dance experience is needed. Just come and have fun, and burn some calories in the same time. Each class will start with some warm up and some physical training. We will then show you the basics and characteristics of that certain style and then built up a routine from that. We will stretch together at the end. The level will be really basic and each class is independent, so just drop in on the once you’re interested in.

Price

The fee is 40 SEK/class in cash before each class.

Details about the fee:
To maintain the high quality of the classes of BringBackBeat, and to involve more teachers and more dance styles, the association decided to collect a fee at every occasion. As a student association, a fee can only be requested as a membership fee. The association therefore decided to make the membership last one week after payment of the fee. I.e. the membership will have to be renewed for each class. The alternative for us would have been to put a higher membership fee and that this would be valid the whole semester. But we decided to do it like this instead to give you more options to choose which classes to attend, and only pay for those.

------------------------------------------------
Location and assembly

Classes will be held in Spegelsalen at Medicinska föreningen (MF),Nobelsväg 10, KI-campus Solna.
Assembly outside the main entrance of MF 15 minutes prior to each class (17.45).
There are showers and changing rooms next to Spegelsalen.

The dance styles:

Breaking
You will during these classes learn the basics in breaking standing (toprocks), down at the ground (downrocks), and also some more simple locking positions, called freezes. Breakdance has its roots in the hip hop-culture from 1970th.

Contemporary
Info will come soon.

Dancehall/Ragga
At these classes you will learn how to move and shake for real. Dancehall is influenced from African dances and is a type of Jamaican reggae, born around 1979. It got its name because the lyrics are too rough to play at radio stations, so the music was only played at clubs.

HipHop /Popping/Jazz
Info will come soon.

House
During these classes you will sweat and jump a lot. What’s characteristic for House dance is the grooving, so called Jackin´. The dance is a mixture of salsa, tap dance, jazz and African dances and it’s danced to House music.

Hype
This style of dance arose in the clubs in USA during the late 80s´ and peaked in the beginning of the 90s´. Hype is danced to typicall HipHop music from this time period, sometimes also called New Jack Swing. The style is very bouncy and happy and can be seen in music videos with eg Mc Hammer, Bobby Brown and Janet Jackson.

Salsa
In these classes you will learn the basic steps, how to move and have the right posture. We will also learn some turns. Salsa is a Latin-American music genre and arose during 1960 as a mix of different Afro-Caribbean music styles. Salsa is mainly danced in couples, but several different styles have developed in different parts of the world during the years.
